HALLOWEEN
PARTY THEME - MONSTER BASH
If you've never seen the animated movie "Mad, Mad, Monster Party",
you been missing out. It gave us the idea for a Halloween party where everyone
is encouraged to dress as a "classic" monster. This type
party works well for smaller groups, otherwise you will end up with
many duplicates, although that in its self can be quite amusing.
You'll want classic horror movie monsters as the costume
theme, leave the more modern Michael Myers and Freddy
Krueger for another party. Just imagine what fun everyone
will have, Dracula dancing with the Bride of Frankenstein,
the Creature From the Black Lagoon chatting with the Wolfman.
It could be the party that everyone talks about for the next
year!
Costumes
- Monsters such as the Invisible Man, Dr. Frankenstein, the
Frankenstein Monster, Bride of Frankenstein, Dracula, the Wolfman,
the Mummy, a Skeleton, Mad Scientist, Creature from the Black
Lagoon, an old Gypsy Witch or Fortune Teller. Help out those that you invite with some
suggestions on classic monster costumes and makeup.
Halloween Online has a
great costume section filled with tips and ideas.
Decorations
- You'll want to go old movie monster and a more retro
theme. The Universal Monsters tableware pictured above
is great for this party! Find old movie posters and
place them around the room. Clear out an area and move
the furniture out of the way to create a dance space so
people can dance to some of the rockin' music if they
want to. make sure and lay a few disposable cameras
around so people can snap some candid pictures.
Refreshments
- Have a large selection of "finger" foods, dips and
beverages on hand. Set it all up on a decorated table.
For some treat ideas, check out the
Halloween Online Recipe section. You could go with
traditional treats like caramel apples, pop corn balls,
and roasted pumpkin seeds. If you would like a more
solid food, try a Jack-O-Lantern pizza. Also make sure
you have plenty of chips, fresh veggies and dip. Don't
forget the punch and other beverages!
Music
- Lively music like "New Wave Halloween" and the
soundtrack from the movie
"Return of the Living Dead" and great. You
might also want to use mood music and play some
soundtracks from some of the old films. There are
compilation CDs out with the music soundtracks from all
kinds of horror and sci-fi films available. See our
Entertainment section
for more suggestions.
Entertainment
- A Halloween Pictionary game using the titles of
classic horror films is a lot of fun for this
party. There are a few kids games like "Make a Monster"
that can be adapted for adults. For lots of Halloween party game suggestions
